Center
for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) CSAT's initiatives and programs are based on research findings and the general consensus of experts in the addiction field that, for most individuals, treatment and recovery work best in a community-based, coordinated system of comprehensive services. Because no single treatment approach is effective for all persons, CSAT supports the nation's effort to provide multiple treatment modalities, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and use evaluation results to enhance treatment and recovery approaches.
National
Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
NIAAA supports and
conducts biomedical and behavioral research on the causes, consequences,
treatment, and prevention of alcoholism and alcohol-related problems.
NIAAA also provides leadership in the national effort to reduce the severe
and often fatal consequences of these problems by conducting research and
studies to determine how best to fight this nationwide disease.
National
Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) NIDA's mission is to lead the nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction. This charge has two critical components. The first is the strategic support and conduct of research across a broad range of disciplines. The second is to ensure the rapid and effective dissemination and use of the results of that research to significantly improve drug abuse and addiction prevention, treatment, and policy.
Office
of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Created as a result of the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988, ONDCP is made up of the Bureau of State and Local Affairs, which consults with state and local agencies for input on the National Drug Control Strategy and works with these agencies to promote the implementation of drug control policies and programs at state and local levels of government. The ONDCP also liaisons with federal law enforcement agencies to promote programs and federal cooperation with state and local counter drug programs, including overseeing the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Program.
Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA)
SAMHDA is part of the National Archive and Analytic Center for Alcohol and Drug Abuse and Mental Health Data. SAMHDA's goal is to provide ready access to substance abuse and mental health research data and to promote the sharing of these data among researchers, academics, policymakers, service providers, and other professionals, thereby increasing the understanding and assessment of substance abuse and mental health problems and the impact of related treatment systems.
The
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) SAMHSA is comprised of three centers that carry out the agency's mission of improving the quality and availability of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and costs to society resulting from substance abuse and mental illnesses. |
